Apple had long back coined “App Store” as a trademark to sell their products. But the recent claim by Amazon that the term “app store” is generic has not been accepted by Apple And Apple is doing everything to protect their trademark.
However Amazon feels that ‘apps store’ indicates a store to buy and download applications. Apple denied this claim and feels that their trademark has been copied. Microsoft and Google have opted for different brand names like Windows Marketplace or Android market for their application stores.

Although Apple dragged Amazon to court for stealing their trademark Amazon fought back by arguing that Apple cannot exercise right over words when put together mean something general and not exclusive to a company.
